So, remember that buttermilk? Yeah, I had extra. So I googled to find a recipe that was easy to make that hopefully would freeze well, as my spouse is out of town. I found a basic scone recipe, and adjusted it (basically, added cheese and rosemary).
It was another good task that I could do with my boy. I have to say, though, I must not have shaken the buttermilk enough, because the bottom was really really thick. No wonder it seemed runny when I made the muffins.
Allrecipes does it again with this recipe. I followed their recipe but added a pinch or two of dried rosemary and a bunch of grated sharp cheese from the foo foo grocery store. Sorry I can't be more specific than "a bunch".
Buttermilk scones
3 c. all purpose flour: 0.60
2 Tbsp baking powder: 0.30
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 c. butter, melted: 0.33
1.25 c buttermilk: 0.50
pinch rosemary: 0.05
grated cheese (2 oz?): $1.62 (I did say it was the foo foo cheese, right?)
Total: $2.90 for 8 scones, or $0.36 each. They are pretty big scones.

I have never done savory scones--only sweet. These look so good I will have to try!
